Thailand in View 2011

Hosted by CASBAA in association with the Satellite Television Association of Thailand (STAT), the first ever Thailand in View seminar explored the opportunities for growth and obstacles that may impede progress in Thailand. An important and flourishing market in Asia, Thailand’s cable and satellite TV industry has been marked by phenomenal growth recently with more than 10 million viewers, penetration of over 50% of TV households and ad revenues worth an estimated 3.5 billion baht (US$110 million) at year end 2010.

Boasting an influential roster of speakers and presenters, Thailand in View featured a keynote address from the Prime Minister of Thailand, H.E. Abhisit Vejjajiva, who championed regulatory change to support the growth of the cable and satellite broadcast industry (Click here to view the entire transcript) and concluded on a high note with closing remarks by H.E. Alongkorn Ponlaboot, Deputy Minister of Commerce, Government of Thailand.

In between, some 200 delegates, speakers and media were treated to insightful sessions to stimulate discussion of the important topics affecting the industry including maximising advertising revenues, the essential value of a dual revenue stream for pay-TV, regulatory issues and the creation of a new National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission and the changing face of content distribution.
