Discovery HD rebrands to Discovery HD World

- Discovery HD re-brands with new logo and exclusive premieres -

Singapore, April 1, 2010 – Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific (DNAP), a division of the number-one nonfiction media company Discovery Communications, today announced the re-brand of Discovery HD to Discovery HD World, with the introduction of a new logo and premiere programming. From April 1, the new logo will roll out in all markets in Asia-Pacific where Discovery HD was available, namely Australia, Hong Kong, India, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan. The re-brand includes teasers, a new brand spot to reflect the new positioning, and an increased number of hours in HD programming.

Discovery is committed to pushing the boundaries and being at the forefront of HD technology while meeting the needs of partners and advertisers by developing new products that reach their target audience. Discovery HD World is broadcast in 1080i with Dolby 5.1 surround sound, providing the highest video and audio quality. Programming is in true HD, and is seamless with end breaks. The standalone channel is independently programmed, featuring compelling content that will bring audiences closer to their world with breathtaking imagery and expansive detail.

The re-brand kicks off with the regional premiere of ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD, by award-winning filmmaker Werner Herzog. The two-hour special takes us on an amazing journey to Earth’s final frontier – the Antarctic, where we meet a group of remarkable individuals who are part of the community of McMurdo Station, Ross Island, the headquarters for the National Science Foundation. These men and women have dedicated their lives to furthering the cause of science in treacherous conditions. Hear their stories and dreams and be awed by the amazing landscape in this dazzling travelogue spiked with quirky observations and Henry Kaiser’s stunning underwater photography.
