MTV signs format deal with CCTV

BEIJING - MTV Networks International (MTVNI) has agreed a deal with CCTV to adapt Nickelodeon show GUTS into a Chinese format.

The action-sports game show marks the first kids TV adaptation CCTV has agreed. Sporting events include basketball, high-jumping, racing driving and mountain climbing.

Caroline Beaton, senior vice-president of international program sales at MTVNI, said the deal built upon a longstanding syndication deal between MTV and CCTV. “This next evolution of our partnership... will help us further strengthen our business in China,” she said.

MTVNI has been building a multiplatform presence in China and most recently launched a consumer products division along with several strategic syndication deals for Nickelodeon hit properties including Clarissa Knows It All, CatDog and SpongeBob Squarepants.
