Australia Pay TV Ad Revenue up 7%

Pay television saw advertising revenues increase by more than 7% in the last fi nancial year to almost $386m, according to the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association. Figures from an Ernst & Young report compiled for ASTRA found ad revenues rise by 7.4% to $385.9m, up from the $359m in the 2101 fi nancial year. In the six months ending June this year, ad revenues were up 3.4% to $180.076m compared  to the previous corresponding period.

Petra Buchanan, CEO at ASTRA said: “Even in a cautious market, subscription television continues to provide advertisers with the opportunities to reach targeted audiences. Integration of brand products and services to technologies, such as the red and green button, has enabled advertisers to drive relevant, specific and engaging content to viewers. It has also helped media agencies offer more value to brands by aligning services with targeted viewer interests.”Foxtel has mounted a takeover bid for regional pay TV operator Austar, but last week the ACCC said its decision on whether the takeover could take place would be delayed until concerns about competition in the market had been addressed.
