HK: TVB To Drive Digital Profit

TVB is planning to further monetise its digital and mobile platforms as its interim profit hit a record high of HK$850 million.

Advertising revenue from tvb.com grew by 54% year-on-year for the first half of 2012, mainly driven by in-stream video advertising. Other ad formats that sold well were wallpaper and first-fold banner ads on key pages such as home page and category index pages.

The company started monetising its myTV Mobile platform by launching mid-roll in-stream video ads in June.

"We look forward to significant mobile advertising revenue contribution in the second half of the year," TVB wrote in a statement.

The company added that it will launch a "TVB News App" in the third quarter to grow its mobile presence further.

Local television advertising revenue grew by 5.7% to HK$1,274 million, mainly from digital and electronics equipments, restaurants and supermarkets advertisements.
