Discovery celebrates 20th anniversary in India with special series

Scripps Networks Cooks Up Higher Profits in Q2

scripps 1234 August 2015 – Scripps Networks Interactive, which restructured last year, reported a big jump in earnings despite a small gain in advertising revenue.

Net income rose 26% to $193.7 million, or $1.49 a share, from $153.8 million, or $1.07 per share, a year ago.

Revenue rose 3.4% to $732.1 million. Ad revenue rose 1.2% to $502.9 million, and affiliate fee revenue was up 8.7% to $215.2 million.

Time Warner Reports Higher 2Q Earnings

time warner1235 August 2015 – Time Warner reported higher earnings as cost cuts at Turner Broadcasting boosted operating income. Profits were lower at HBO as it spent on marketing and technology launching HBO Now.

Second-quarter net income rose 14% to $971 million, or $1.16 a share, from $850 million, or 95 cents a share, a year ago.

Discovery CEO Forecasts Growth For Ads, Affiliate Fees, And Digital

STAR exits Balaji, sells 26% stake for Rs 108 cr

Star India new 1236 August 2015 – STAR India, which held nearly 26 per cent stake in Ekta and Shobha Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, has offloaded all its shares in the company at Rs 63.6 a share. The total deal value is pegged at Rs 108 crore. Balaji’s stock, which opened at Rs 82 a share on the BSE on Wednesday, rallied 16 per cent to Rs 95.25 apiece after the sale.

Eurosport Scores Singtel TV Carriage

Singtel 123 new5 August 2015 – IPTV operator Singtel TV is set to begin offering Eurosport, which has UEFA Champions League and Europa League rights in Singapore, this month.

The carriage agreement was sealed between Singtel TV and Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific and takes effect August 11. The deal bolsters Singtel’s sports slate, which includes Premier League matches and the football channel ELEVEN. In addition to Champions League action, Eurosport is the local home to the US Open, among other events. Also joining Singtel is Eurosport News. The channels replace mio Sports 2 and mio Sports 3.

Fox’s Thai unit eyes 70% jump |in ad revenue

FIC-NEW-LOGO-1236 Aug 2015 – FOX International Channels Thailand (FIC) hopes for at least a 70-per-cent surge in advertising revenue after establishing a local production and sales team and expanding syndication of its broadcasting rights to digital television channels.

MR Rujayarak Abhakorn, FIC’s vice president for Thailand, said yesterday that the Bangkok-based unit had been assigned by the head office to manage a sales team and engage with local TV production houses for its seven pay-TV channels. They are Fox Thai, Fox Movie Premium, Star World, Fox Sports 3, Fox Sport HD, Channel V Thailand and Channel V HD.

Deutsche Welle To Broadcast Across Eastern Europe And Africa Via SES Satellites

ses123LUXEMBOURG, 5 August 2015 — SES S.A. (NYSE Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG) announced today that German broadcaster Deutsche Welle has signed a new long-term capacity agreement on three SES satellites to broadcast two channels in Eastern Europe and Africa.

Deutsche Welle will be broadcasting its German-language TV channel DW via the ASTRA 4A satellite, allowing more than six million direct-to-home households in Eastern Europe and 40 million cable and IPTV households in Europe to receive the channel directly and indirectly.
Deutsche Welle will also broadcast its new English-language channel across Eastern Europe and Africa via the ASTRA 4B and SES-5 satellites. The 24-hour news and information channel, which broadcasts events from Germany and around the world, was already launched on 22 June via ASTRA 19.2 degrees East.
