Turner greenlights season three of The Amazing World of Gumball

TURNER BROADCASTING GREENLIGHTS SEASON THREE OF MULTI-AWARD-WINNING SERIES 
THE AMAZING WORLD OF GUMBALL

Friday 5th October 2012, London: Turner Broadcasting has commissioned a third season of The Amazing World of Gumball, the critically acclaimed debut series from its London-based Cartoon Network Studio Europe.

The multi-awarding-winning series has scooped 15 prestigious global award wins since it launched in 2011, including two BAFTAs, three Kidscreen Awards, two British Animation Awards, an Annie, a Prix Jeunesse Award and an Annecy Cristal Award amongst its roll call of achievements.

In addition to its industry plaudits, The Amazing World of Gumball has won-over a multitude of fans with its inimitable brand of comedy and visual creativity, achieving international success on Cartoon Network. In the US, the second season premiere of The Amazing World of Gumball (August 2012) was the #1 broadcast of the day among boys 2-11 and 6-11, as well as #1 in its time period among kids 2-11, 6-11 and all boys demos.*

The groundbreaking UK-produced series will continue its format of 2D and 3D animation within a live-action setting. The core team behind the show, creator Ben Bocquelet, director Mic Graves and executive producer Daniel Lennard are also onboard for series three.

Turner Broadcasting has commissioned a total of 40 x 11’ episodes. A transmission date has not been set but as with previous seasons, it will air on Cartoon Network in over 160 countries across the world.

The Amazing World of Gumball follows the misadventures of 12-year-old Gumball and his family in the weird and wonderful town of Elmore. Featuring a stellar cast of characters, Gumball’s school friends include a Tyrannosaurus Rex, a cheerleading peanut, and a banana.

The Amazing World of Gumball’s broadcast success has been replicated on a range of digital platforms. Suburban Karate Master, an online game based on the series has had over 250 million game plays worldwide. A YouTube video of show character Banana Joe dancing has been watched over 2.5 million times, while a mobile app for Android and iOS has been downloaded over 500,000 times.
