ITV Granada acquire Midsomer Murders

(HONG KONG – 7TH March 2013) ITV Granada has signed a deal with independent distributor All3MEDIA International, acquiring the newest seasons of hit drama Midsomer Murders for premiere pay-TV broadcast across Asia and the Middle East.

The hit detective drama will air on ITV Granada, first and exclusive, from the fourteenth series across the region, followed by the 2013 series later in the year.

Midsomer Murders will add to ITV Granada’s established lineup of award winning, primetime dramas which include Lewis, Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Doc Martin.

Midsomer Murders first aired on ITV UK in 1997, and has been a ratings winner ever since. The latest series premiere achieved 6.13 million viewers on ITV in the UK, a 25% share of the primetime audience.

The series is based on the books by Carline Graham, as originally adapted by Anthony Horowitz. The new stories revolve around DCI John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon), who replaces John Nettles character, and his partner DC Ben Jones (Jason Hughes), who together fight crime in the beautiful, but deadly fictional English county of Midsomer.

The deal was negotiated by Stephen Driscoll, VP International Sales at All3MEDIA International, and Marita Thurnauer, Programme Director for ITV Granada.

The channel will rebrand as ITV Choice from 25th March.

Midsomer Murders will broadcast on Wednesdays, starting 13th March: IST 1830, MALTA 1900, THAI 2000, HK/SIN/KSA 2100, MAL/UAE 2200.

Asia – March 6, 2013 – FOX International Channels (FIC),The Walking Dead Creator/Executive Producer Robert Kirkman, Kirkman’s Skybound imprint at Image Comics, and Circle of Confusion are developing a script based on Kirkman’s upcoming comic book series set in the world of exorcism. This partnership emerged from a long-standing and successful relationship between Kirkman and FIC during the ongoing run of AMC’s hit series, The Walking Dead, based on Kirkman’s Eisner Award-winning comic book series, on which FIC is international partner.

Told through the Kirkman prism, the series follows a young man, Kyle Barnes, who has been plagued by possession since he was a child. Now an adult, he embarks on a spiritual journey to find answers but what he uncovers could mean the end of life on Earth as we know it. Kirkman will serve as executive producer alongside The Walking Dead executive producer David Alpert of Circle of Confusion.

Fashion One launches new original reality TV show, “Design Genius.”

Hong Kong, March 1, 2013 – Talented emerging fashion designers from around the world gather with one goal in mind: to be crowned the new fashion prodigy and win the title of ‘Design Genius’. The fashion-packed competition series pits three designers against each other competing for recognition and the chance to win $25,000. Outrageous fashion designer-turned-reality star, Indashio, hosts and judges the series.

In each episode, three designers are surprised with three unconventional materials and one inspirational element. They must create an accessory, undergarment, and wardrobe using only the items provided. “It’s amazing to watch these designers create high fashion garments out of bicycles, beach balls and first-aid kits, and then bring these individual pieces together to create an overall vision,” explains New York City’s famed Indashio. “It’s about making the unimaginable fashionable… It’s design or die!” With crippling time constraints, obscure materials and unpredictable inspirations, designers will battle it out and find their design skills pushed to the limit.

Each designer will have to be flexible, inventive, creative, and display a unique talent for designing with unconventional materials. In the end, there can be only one Design Genius!

Held in Singapore on February 27, 2013, the Myanmar in View forum attracted over 100 delegates and speakers eager to explore the opportunities and pitfalls of the multichannel TV industry in the country.

New carriage deal with MeTV

(HONG KONG, 5th March 2013) ITV Granada, part of ITV Studios, has announced expansion of the channel’s distribution in Thailand. ITV Granada is now offered through Thailand’s latest IPTV operator MeTV, on the TOT platform.

The latest distribution deal, which was handled by sales distribution partner Multi Channels Asia, demonstrates a growing demand for the channel throughout Asia and the Middle East.

Simon Li, Channel Director says “We are delighted to be joining the MeTV family and growing our footprint in Thailand. With this expansion we aim to bring more of ITV’s premium drama and entertainment titles to both local and ex-pat audiences.”

Australia orders 2 Ariane launches

March 4, 2013: Australia’s National Broadband Network has signed an important A$300 million deal with France’s Arianespace to launch the NBN satellites into orbit. NBN Co is spending A$620 million on two Ka-band satellites with both expected to be operational by 2015. With US giant Space Systems/Loral currently building the satellites, NBN Co has now secured the services of Arianespace to take them up into space.
