‘Make in India’ just got real for Indian Entertainment Content!

zee 123Thailand/India, April 09, 2015: It is a known fact that prime-time content in India has been laced with popular international formats which are regularly imported and licensed by Indian TV channels from international broadcasters, production-houses or format-owners. In a turnaround of sorts, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) has created broadcast history by finalizing a syndication deal with JKN Global Media Limited Thailand for its home-grown format, Dance India Dance.

While Indian content being aired or repurposed on TV channels across the world is quite common, this particular syndication deal is a landmark achievement since it’s the very first time that a format created in India has been licensed internationally. The Indian content industry’s contribution to ‘Make in India’, literally!

Speaking on this landmark initiative, Punit Goenka, MD & CEO, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited said, “At ZEE, we have always believed in developing in-house formats. It was our belief in the concept of Dance India Dance that led to its growth from the regional to the international platform. Through this partnership with JKN Global Media Limited, DID will not only reach out to the South-Asian diaspora but the local, mainstream audiences in Thailand as well.”

“Going forward, we hope to license not just Dance India Dance but our other home-grown formats to the international markets,” Mr. Goenka further added.

Commenting on the partnership, Andrew Suteestarpon, Managing Director, JKN Global Media Limited Thailand said, “I’m very pleased to develop the well-known format show called Dance India Dance into the local version. With the collaboration of ZEE, I strongly believe in the professional team and the corporate experience that can lead JKN Channel into achieving a High Success Rating with Dance Thailand Dance.”

Sunita Uchil, Global Head Syndication, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited said, “We are very proud that our home-grown format ‘Dance India Dance’ will now reach 22 million homes in Thailand through JKN Channel. Over the years, there has been an increasing demand for Indian content and we have endeavored to meet this demand by offering a wide array of entertainment content through customized services like dubbing and subtitling in foreign languages under the Zee Bollyworld umbrella. This deal embraces our global positioning of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – The World is My Family’ and reinforces Zee Bollyworld’s leadership as the ‘one-stop shop for Indian entertainment content the world over.'”

After breaking viewership records in India, Dance India Dance which is the ultimate platform to showcase dancing talent, is now all set to wow international audiences. Zee D.I.D. it again!

Sevis Systems delivers optimised 3G/LTE backhaul over Eutelsat’s KA-SAT satellite

eut logocvs Converted-use-this-123Paris, 9 April 2015 – Sevis Systems, Inc. the leading developer of intelligent backhaul optimisation technology, has successfully validated its highly effective and flexible platform for backhaul services on the KA-SAT satellite operated by Eutelsat Communications (NYSE Euronext Paris: ETL). The new solution offers a more affordable and optimised satellite backhaul service to specialised satellite service providers delivering end-to-end backhaul bandwidth to Mobile Network Operators (MNOs). Sevis and Eutelsat are now offering the solution across KA-SAT’s entire footprint of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

These new services are ideal for delivering 3G and LTE to remote or rural locations without access to terrestrial backhaul. The ability for KA-SAT to provide backhaul connectivity between a core network and the access infrastructure at a remote site is suitable for mobile operators and Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) for emergency services and civil defence. The Sevis integrated solution also allows service providers to develop and deliver innovative backhaul services defined by software. For example, TCP acceleration, data traffic offload and overflow can leverage Sevis´ multi-layer optimisation algorithms to efficiently route traffic and integrate satellite and terrestrial backhaul.

With an advanced feature set and based on Sevis´ scalable 7000-Series hardware platform designed for IP high throughput backhaul environments, Eutelsat´s partners and users can now leverage Sevis´ industry-leading optimisation technology delivering new levels of savings, scalability and flexibility. In conjunction with Eutelsat´s KA-SAT high throughput network, satellite service providers and MNOs can realise high ROI savings in 3G backhaul operating costs while establishing a seamless migration path to LTE backhaul, traffic offload and overflow.

Tim Peyla, VP Business Development at Sevis Systems, said, “Our highly scalable optimisers, purposely built for High Throughput Satellite, together with our software-defined service features, enable service providers to efficiently deliver current and future backhaul services. When combined with the power and coverage of Eutelsat’s KA-SAT, the result is a backhaul solution that achieves the lowest possible cost to deliver carrier-class backhaul services over satellite.”

“Sevis Systems has a long and rich history of developing and marketing optimised telecom solutions, both hardware and software, to tier one telecom operators worldwide,” said Philippe Llau, B2B Commercial Director at Eutelsat Broadband. “This latest solution will dramatically decrease the total cost of ownership for satellite service providers and mobile operators and further extends the scope of the professional communication services that can be delivered over KA-SAT.”

Named StarHub TV on Fibre, the service which is delivered over Singapore’s Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network, promises a superior viewing experience with high-definition content, personalised features and greater interactivity.

StarHub TV on Fibre is an all high-definition platform where customers can access the same comprehensive suite of over 200 channels that are currently offered on StarHub TV1. Ericsson takes video to the cloud to enable the ultimate time-shifted TV experience

ericsson123April 8, 2015

  • Ericsson launches cloud DVR (digital video recorder) solution at NAB 2015 following its acquisition and integration of Fabrix Systems
  • Immediately positions Ericsson as market leader in cloud DVR through new video storage and processing platform
  • New platform works to reduce cost and complexity in consumer homes, shrinking set-top-boxes while delivering consumers with on-demand, anywhere TV access to their content

Ericsson’s (NASDAQ: ERIC) Media Vision 2020 research predicts that by the year 2020, time spent watching on-demand and time-shifted content will have reached 50:50 parity with linear and live TV. As the trend for time-shifted viewing combines with ‘anywhere access’, TV service providers must ensure their service offerings keep pace by giving consumers control to record and watch live TV content anytime, on any device. In response to this change in viewing behavior, Ericsson has launched its cloud DVR solution, applicable to all QAM and IP-based TV platforms. This crucial consumer application is powered by the Ericsson Video Storage and Processing Platform, a high performance, software-based infrastructure.

Ericsson’s new platform offers a unique, proven infrastructure, which allows for seamless augmentation and replacement of legacy TV services with new cloud-based services. It integrates and virtualizes the storage and processing capabilities of as many Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) servers as needed, providing outstanding performance gains and allowing operators to avoid many of the complexities and costs associated with launching new services.

Ove Anebygd, Vice President and Head of Solution Area Media, Ericsson, says: “Today’s viewers are more prescriptive than ever. They want simplicity in discovery and immediacy of access to TV Anywhere services, and content delivered in the highest possible quality. They require the flexibility and speed to connect to huge libraries of content, and the ability to record and watch live and linear content whenever they choose. Providing these features can be expensive and many legacy infrastructures simply do not have the functionality to do it. Our customers need the most advanced cloud-centric solutions to drive functions from the home into the cloud, and to enable service differentiation and new efficiencies. Our new cloud DVR solution places us at the forefront of technology capability and performance, with proven deployments at the most demanding customer sites, totaling over 150 petabytes of storage capacity”.

In addition to powering the most proven-at-scale cloud DVR deployments, the Ericsson Video Storage and Processing Platform also enables multiple video storage and video processing applications that include:

Master video library – Scale-out storage providing the ability to ingest, process and ubiquitously stream master or “gold copies’ of licensed content
Long tail server – Allows operators to store and deliver less popular, or long tail, content directly from a large, central storage vault, eliminating the need to replicate entire libraries at the edge of the network
Dynamic origin server – High performance scale-out storage has integrated recording, storage, and delivery functions
CDN (content delivery network) assist – Allows operators to expand their library and adaptively stream content over-the-top, as well as to legacy systems
Enhanced VOD – Improves performance, flexibility, and scale in VOD solutions
