(30-10-2013) Despite the potential worry of two tropical storms hitting, Elemental Technologies has declared as a success K-Opticom’s coverage of the Osaka Marathon the world’s first real-time 4K UltraHD high efficiency video coding (H.265 / HEVC) transmission.

Elemental pioneered the workflow for the historic event and used Elemental video processing to deliver live coverage of the eight-plus-hour race. Its Live systems provided HEVC encoding of 4K/59.94p material acquired from Sony PMW-F55 CineAlta 4K cameras located at the midpoint and finish line of the racecourse. Each camera was mounted with an AJA Ki-Pro Quad, sending source content to Elemental systems via live 3G-SDI interfaces. K-OPT , which provides fibre optic services for the Kansai Region of Japan, also developed the event’s official application, accessible via the marathon website and on iOS and Android devices.
