ONE launches in Cambodia on Phnom Penh Cable Television
Singapore, 9 May 2011 – ONE, the first Asian general entertainment TV channel from SPE Networks – Asia (SPENA) has debuted in Cambodia through a carriage deal signed with Phnom Penh Cable Television (PPCTV). Launched on 1 May 2011, ONE joins AXN, AXN Beyond, Animax and Sony Entertainment Television on PPCTV to complete SPENA’s bouquet of five linear channels in the market.
The new carriage agreement follows the launch of ONE and its high-definition (HD) feed, ONE HD, in Singapore on StarHub TV in April 2011. ONE HD has also been enjoying success in Malaysia, where it continues to be the No. 1-rated, high-definition channel on pay-TV platform Astro.[1]
Available to all customers in the basic pack of the analogue PPCTV platform, ONE offers viewers in Cambodia some of the latest Korean dramas, with selected titles premiering 3 – 5 weeks after their debut broadcasts in South Korea. Apart from drama series, ONE serves up a variety of the hippest K-pop variety, reality and music programmes to entertain audiences.
ONE is the exclusive destination of shows produced by South Korea’s SBS through its output deal with the Seoul-based content supplier and broadcaster.
“Demand for Korean entertainment across Asia has been phenomenal and Cambodia is no exception. Offering some of the best programmes available just weeks after their Korean premieres, ONE will be an irresistible TV destination for fans. With ONE becoming the fifth SPENA channel in the growing Cambodian market, we are well placed to offer viewers a complete suite of quality entertainment choices in the comfort of their homes,” said Mr Ricky Ow, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Networks, Asia, Sony Pictures Television.
ONE’s foray into the Asian entertainment genre is a major milestone for SPENA, which has brought viewers the best in English general entertainment through its AXN, AXN Beyond and Sony Entertainment Television channels over the past 14 years.
In February, ONE HD in Malaysia beat all 11 other high-definition (HD) channels on Astro, with full-day ratings that were four times higher than its closest competitor. Viewers also spent an average of almost 2 hours on the channel, the second-longest duration among the 125 channels available on the Malaysian pay-TV platform.[2]
