Mumbai, 9 May 2017: Discovery Communications today announces its plan to roll out Discovery JEET, a new entertainment channel across India, starting in late 2017. The new channel will be the flagship for the network’s ambitious investment into original local productions in India, superserving superfans and nurturing communities around a range of programme genres including true crime investigations, small-town heroes and gritty survival.

Discovery is scaling up investment in over 200 hours of local content originals which will premiere on this new channel. AXN Announces Asia’s Got Talent Open Audition Cities

SINGAPORE (May 8, 2017) – The regional search is on for Asia’s next superstar as AXN announced today the audition cities for season two of the record-breaking series, Asia’s Got Talent. Kicking off on May 14, talented hopefuls can descend on any of these five locations: Singapore (May 14), Kuala Lumpur (May 20), Manila (May 21), Taipei (May 27) and Bangkok (May 28) for their chance at super stardom and USD100,000 in cash. If their act is successful, they may then be selected to perform at the judges’ auditions, which comprise the first five episodes of the series and precede the semi-finals and the grand finale episode where the winner of Asia’s Got Talent will be crowned.

Asia’s Got Talent is slated to premiere in the second half of 2017, first and exclusively on AXN.

Viddsee’s first original short film ‘Time’ and other Asian short films to premiere on Lifetime starting 13 May

 

Singapore, 8 May 2017 – Lifetime® Asia (StarHub TV Ch 514) today announced a partnership with Singapore’s homegrown online entertainment platform Viddsee, to curate and broadcast a weekly selection of stories made by local filmmakers.

Lifetime, a global female-focused entertainment brand, will expand its signature Lifetime Original Movies offering by including Viddsee’s bold curation of stories that celebrate the transformative experiences of modern day women, made by award-winning young and upcoming film directors from Asia.

The partnership kicks off with Viddsee’s first original short film, ‘Time’ and other Asia short stories which premieres on 13 May, Saturday, 10:35pm (SIN/HK) as part of a Mother’s Day special on Lifetime, across 15 territories in Asia.

Singapore – May 8, 2017 – The “2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards” celebrated the best of Young Hollywood tonight at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, awarding Golden Popcorns to the actors and stories across film and television that influenced youth culture.

The “2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards” will repeat telecast on MTV Asia today at 8pm (SG/PH/MAL) and 7pm (WIB). MTV Asia will continue to ask audiences to LIVE tweet #MTVAWARDS and to share what are the “Most WTH Moments” since the live telecast in the morning till when the repeat telecast takes place in the evening. The most interesting tweets will stand a chance to win exciting prizes, including ‘MTV Movie & TV  Awards Popcorn Bowls’ and ‘UIP Complimentary Movie Pass’*.

Actor and comedian Adam Devine gave a “beauty” and a “beast” of a performance, kicking off the legendary party with a fire-filled grand opening featuring an all-star cast of cameos including Lil Rel Howery, Millie Bobby Brown, Chrissy Metz, Blake Anderson, Josh Gad, Hugh Jackman, Hailee Steinfeld, Rebel Wilson and DJ Nasty. “Billion’s” star Asia Kate Dillon presented the first award of the night to Emma Watson for the non-gendered Best Actor in a Movie category with Millie Bobby Brown later accepting the first-ever Best Actor in a Show award.

Star and producer Vin Diesel accepted the Generation Award on behalf of the enduring motion-picture franchise Fast & Furious, marking the first time a film franchise was honored instead of an individual actor. Diesel was joined on-stage by his franchise co-stars Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Jordana Brewster. J Balvin and Pitbull then took the stage with Camila Cabello to perform their steamy hit single, “Hey Ma,” which was featured in the most recent installment The Fate of the Furious.

The first-ever Best Fight the System award was presented by Congresswoman Maxine Waters and Blackish’s Tracee Ellis Ross to Taraji P. Henson for Hidden Figures. Additional new and timely categories were awarded to “Blackish” for Best American Story, “This Is Us” for Tearjerker, Trevor Noah for Best Host, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” for Best Reality Competition and Daniel Kaluuya for Next Generation.

The evening also included performances by Big Sean and Noah Cyrus, as well as exclusive sneak peeks at highly anticipated films IT, Transformers: The Last Knight and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Country Managers Appointed In Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand

SINGAPORE (2 May, 2017) – The Walt Disney Company South East Asia today announced the appointment of country managers in Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand to further strengthen its focus in high growth markets. Mr. Herry Salim, Ms. Veronica Espinosa-Cabalinan and Ms. Subha-Orn Rathanamongkolmas (Soupy) have been appointed country managers for Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand respectively, reporting to Robert Gilby, Managing Director – The Walt Disney Company South East Asia.

This country level focus will further support Disney’s in-market partnerships, create localized creative content and accelerate fast learning of local trends and opportunities to serve fans of Disney, Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar. The new leaders will focus on building brand affinity through fan engagement and drive monetization with a compelling portfolio of content across all Disney businesses.

Prior to joining Disney, Herry was Vice President Household Care for Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, in Unilever. Prior to that, Veronica worked with Pacific Licensing Studio where she led the consumer products licensing team for a portfolio of licensed brands in Philippines.

Soupy is a senior executive in the studios entertainment business with over two decades experience working in Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos. Prior to this role, she was the Managing Director of the joint venture entity of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and Sony Pictures Releasing International in Thailand where she held various roles since joining in 2003.

HKT wins HKAEE Gold Award

The award was presented to HKT’s Group Managing Director Mr. Alex Arena by Mr. Leung Chun-ying, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
HKT is committed to protecting the environment while providing valuable services to society. For example, HKT has been continuously replacing conventional air-conditioning cooling systems with water-cooled chillers at exchange buildings to save energy. In partnership with CLP Holdings Limited, HKT has formed a joint venture, Smart Charge (HK) Limited, to provide electric vehicle charging solutions and promote electric mobility for a cleaner environment in Hong Kong. PCCW Global and Caton Technology collaborate in Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade international distribution

(Caton), a technology provider of advanced video transmission and managed file transfer solutions, will work together to deliver to international viewers the exciting 29th Summer Universiade, a global student sporting and cultural event to be hosted by Taipei, Taiwan in August. Licenced broadcasters at the games will be able to contribute and distribute their live videos and big media files seamlessly from the International Broadcasting Center back to their home countries via the integrated delivery solution provided by this collaboration.

This year’s competition will involve a total of 22 sports and 270 gold medal events. Neither is better or worse; each path has its own risks and rewards. Sharing insights and examples from his own experience in the Media and Entertainment industry, Dr. Chandra spoke on “Entrepreneurship in Creative Industries” saying, “The Indian Media & Entertainment (M & E) industry stood at Rs. 1,26,200 crores in 2016 as per the FICCI-KPMG Media and Entertainment Report 2017 and is expected to almost double its current size by the year 2020. We can therefore see that there is much opportunity for growth in this industry. To become a successful entrepreneur in the M & E industry or for that matter in any industry, you need to have a strong product on offer which is unique from any other existing product or you need to cater to an audience that has not been tapped before. By experimenting with new and creative offerings, you can keep the interest alive for your audiences, your employees and yourself.”

23 Amateur Photographers to capture the ‘Lenscape’ of Pop Culture in HISTORY’S® Latest Season of PHOTO FACE-OFF

3 May 2017, Singapore – A+E Networks® Asia’s original production PHOTO FACE-OFF is back in frame for a fourth successive season on HISTORY®. Production has commenced and viewers across the region are set to enjoy a newly expanded format that rolls out over the six-part, 1-hour reality photography competition series. Featuring its largest crop of 23 contestants from eight territories, the series is expected to bow across Asia in the second half of 2017 on HISTORY®.

In this new season, the original series will focus on the overarching theme of capturing photo stories of popular, socially-trending and culturally-relevant subjects, interests and movements of today. Shoots in familiar Southeast Asian capital cities will be complemented by some off-the-beaten-track, colourful locales to surprise and delight contestants and viewers.

Award-winning resident professional photographer Justin Mott returns as the chief judge of PHOTO FACE-OFF. As the series authority, he will guide and contend with the fresh group of amateur photographers who are competing against each other in brand new and tougher challenges for attractive prizes.

For the fourth year running, Canon is the presenting sponsor of PHOTO FACE-OFF; while Tourism Authority of Thailand is an episodic sponsor. The prizes at stake for this season’s group of talented shutterbugs include a Canon DSLR, an all-expenses-paid trip to participate in the esteemed Canon PhotoMarathon Asia Championship, as well as a cash prize.

In each episode, four local photography amateurs from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam take on photography challenges in their home cities that test the shooters’ creativity, skill and technical knowledge.

The three-round battle in each episode comprises a speed challenge making contestants think on their feet in a race against time; a themed challenge to deliver on a client’s creative brief; and a final face-off where the remaining two contestants compete against Justin. The winner earns a spot in the final as the country representative, prizes, and potential bragging rights for beating an award-winning professional photographer.

Together with Justin, local expert guest judges in each territory will judge the work of contestants.

They will also offer an array of practical photography advice and handy tips on the series that viewers can put into everyday use.
