Discover the New Face of Elite Model Management Barcelona

Hong Kong, January 21, 2014 – Fashion One, the international channel for fashion, entertainment and lifestyle content, partners with the prestigious international modeling agency, Elite Model Management Barcelona, to bring the most renowned modeling contest in Spain, Elite Model Look Spain 2013, to international television.

In this new original reality-documentary series from Fashion One, we follow aspiring models from the castings in the cities of Barcelona, Madrid, Alicante, Malaga and A Coruña, to the semifinal, and finally the finale where the new Elite girl and the new Elite boy are chosen. Along the way, each candidate is trained extensively to become the new face of tomorrow’s international fashion marketplace. We will share their dreams, their hopes, their fears and their emotional journey as these young hopefuls go through the different phases of the competition leading up to the finale.

Organized by Elite Model Management, Elite Model Look is an ideal launch pad in the modeling industry that has helped introduce top models such as Nieves Alvarez, Cindy Crawford, Stephanie Seymour, Linda Evangelista and Gisele Bündchen. Elite Model Look Spain is the national leg of the competition, screening local young models that will represent Spain in the Elite Model Look World Final.

“Before the fame and glamour, top models all started from a casting call. This collaboration with Elite Model Management gave us the opportunity to feature young talents as they are being discovered and trained to be the rising stars of tomorrow. We bring our viewers back to the core of fashion where it all begins, showcasing an important part of the fashion chain that is rarely emphasized,” said Ashley Jordan, CEO of Fashion One.

“Elite Model Look Spain is the spine of Elite Model Management Spain. EML girls are vital for a market in crisis like ours and numbers speak by themselves as 45% of our annual income is coming from our rooster of Elite Model Look girls. If we go into details, the top seller girls are past winners of Elite Model Look,” expressed Elite Model Management Barcelona director, Gael Marie.

Elite Model Look Spain 2013 premieres January 30, 2014 and will be shown every Thursday at 22:00 (GMT+8) exclusively on Fashion One. Check your cable operators for your local TV channel listing.

It’s the start of a new year, and that means pundits across the planet have been getting their crystal balls out and polishing them up. I’ve always liked the slightly snarky counter-prediction prediction pieces, myself, but there are plenty more straight-forward prediction lists out there… including one from CASBAA member Bengt Jonsson of Irdeto…!

Time Warner Cable recently shot down an acquisition offer from Charter Communications with CEO Rob Marcus stating: “Here’s what happened: We didn’t put our house up for sale, and we got a knock on the door and someone made a low-ball offer.” You know…I couldn’t have said that any better myself!

Sigh….how romance changes… for couples split by distance, two screens blink as one…lovers once took solace in sharing the same big sky and now they take it in sharing a little screen kilometers apart. Couples still want to watch TV together. And of course, where there are shared viewing experiences, there are commitments, and the merest brush with an unwatched episode is adultery. Then I defy you, stars!

At the recent Consumer Electronics Show in the USA, there was a lot of discussion of the pros and cons of the “app economy.” Content providers and pay-TV platforms have overlapping and sometimes competing interests when it comes to apps, but this article doesn’t even mention the elephant in the room — apps that deliver pirated program streams!

Is Netflix a vision of the future or a sign of the past? If you are talking about potentially streaming or developing 4K content, then they may be shaping the industry…but only if they can get the rights. Many Netflix customers are frustrated by the lack of streaming movies now available, and now they have to wait for selected DVDs to be mailed, yet again. With less companies willing to sell rights to the once online-start-up-now-giant, this Bloomberg Opinion piece wonders if the good days of streaming are behind us.

Are we on the edge of a mass exodus from pay-TV services to online substitutes? Apparently not, according to recent research undertaken by The Diffusion Group in the US. The research concludes that 88% of adult broadband users subscribe to an incumbent pay-TV service. However it’s important that pay-TV operators execute on their promises to deliver the types of video experiences desired by millennials.

Happy New Year! What better way to start 2014 than with a new buzz word for something we have all been trying to achieve – finding the perfect way “to get a brand in front of consumers?” Getting reach means ever-more competition for space, while achieving a depth of engagement means being interesting or relevant enough for the audience to be bothered to look.

The business model of online piracy is discussed in a fascinating pair of interviews on the torrentfreak website with an admitted (but anonymous) pirate uploader. Of course he disingenuously blames piracy on the content company “dinosaurs” – the fact that people like Kim Dotcom make big money from piracy has nothing to do with its spread…

(15 Jan, 2014) Perrette takes over for 23-year Discovery veteran Mark Hollinger, who announced his resignation in September.

“JB is one of the smartest and most versatile executives I have worked with in the media business. Since his time at NBC as a leader in business development, distribution and digital to all the success and value he has built at Discovery, JB has it all — strong strategic vision, operational expertise and exceptional team-building skills. This is a demanding role like no other, which I believe requires a corporate executive with a broad background to oversee all aspects of the business across 220 countries. Having spent half his career internationally, and with a unique mix of distribution, digital, strategy and business development experience, JB is the perfect fit to lead Discovery’s international operations,” said David Zaslav, president and CEO of Discovery Communications.
