StarHub simplifies pay-TV packages

July 16, 2013 – StarHub will be streamlining its pay-TV packages to simplify its proposition for customers with effect from 1 September 2013.

This will be done by merging the Basic Groups and Basic Upsize groups to form the newly enhanced Basic Tier. Accordingly, Basic Tier will become the entry-level group for price plan subscriptions and will adopt the same pricing structure as the current Basic Groups with Basic Upsize.

On-demand adds just 2.3% to pay TV revenues in 2012

(Jul 15, 2013) A new report from Digital TV Research has found that in 2012, on-demand television generated just 2.3% of the $184 billion total for pay TV revenues.

However, the on-demand proportion is forecast to grow to 2.9% of the $203 billion total in 2018.

21st Century Fox, NBCUniversal and The Walt Disney Company to Maintain Ownership Positions in Hulu

(Jul 12, 2013) 21st Century Fox, NBCUniversal and The Walt Disney Company today jointly announced that they will maintain their respective ownership positions in Hulu and together provide a cash infusion of $750 million in order to propel future growth.

Launched in 2008, Hulu is now a leading aggregator of premium online television content from over 400 content partners, and has achieved more than 30 million monthly unique visitors

Eurosport launches on Xbox 360

(Jul 11, 2013) Eurosport is to launch on the Xbox 360, adding additional content through its Eurosport Player.

The Eurosport Player app for the Xbox 360 will deliver Eurosport’s live sport content and on-demand as part of Kinect for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.

Al Jazeera targets Mediapro

Should it succeed, it would gain a powerful footing in the country and in particular control of the lucrative Spanish football TV rights held by the Barcelona-based company.
