MGM Channel rebrands as AMC

(Aug 4, 2014) AMC is to rebrand the MGM Channel as AMC. It’s the first time that the AMC moniker has been used outside of the United States.

Locally versioned channel feeds will be launched across Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East later this year. Also accompanying these channels will be authenticated AMC VOD, HD and “TV Everywhere” services.

NCTC offers full slate of Disney VOD and multiscreen packs

(Aug 2, 2014) The US National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) has signed a multi-year multiscreen and on-demand content distribution agreement with The Walt Disney Company.

The organisation, a co-op serving nearly a thousand member companies across the country, will offer Disney’s line-up of sports, news and entertainment content to participating members’ customers across TVs, computers, smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles and connected devices.

Discovery launches 3 channels, expands portfolio to 11

(Aug 1, 2014) Discovery Communications India has launched three new channels in the country, taking the network portfolio to 11 channels.

The three new channels include Hindi entertainment channel ID – Investigation Discovery and two HD channels, TLC HD World and Animal Planet HD World. ID will be dedicated to offering compelling true stories of crime and suspense.

AsiaSat readies new satellites for launch

(Aug 1, 2014) Two new satellites for the Asian region have now arrived at the Cape Canaveral Air Force base in Florida in readiness for launches over the next few weeks.

Partners Space Systems/Loral (SSL) and Asia Satellite Telecommunications (AsiaSat) announced that AsiaSat 6 would be launched by SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket next month, following the launch of AsiaSat 8 currently scheduled for next week

SES unveils new satellite operations center

(Aug 1, 2014) Global satellite operator SES will now be controlling nearly half of its growing fleet from a new satellite operations center (SOC) at its commercial sales and satellite engineering office in Princeton, New Jersey.

A team of satellite controllers provide 24/7 monitoring and management of the 23 SES satellites, as they deliver services ranging from high quality broadcast television channels to high-speed broadband to millions of people on land, in the air and at sea throughout North America and around the world.

PGN and MEASAT lock deal for international distribution

Kuala Lumpur, 1 August 2014 – MEASAT Satellite Systems Sdn. Bhd. (“MEASAT”) announced today an agreement with Pilipinas Global Network Limited (“PGN Limited”) for capacity on MEASAT-3.

Under the terms of the agreement, PGN Limited will use MEASAT-3’s global beam to distribute the Aksyon TV International and Kapatid TV5 channels to over 120 countries across Asia Pacific, Australia, the Middle East and Eastern Africa.

Kapatid TV5 is a 24-hour general entertainment Tagalog language channel and prides itself in its ability to capture the pulse of the Filipino people. AksyonTV International is a 24-hour Tagalog language channel dedicated to bringing the latest in News and Philippine Sports.
