FOX International Channels Asia Confirms The Walking Dead Season 5

fox123

The #1 show on TV will be back across FIC Asia’s channels following the success of its Season 4 launch.

Asia Pacific, 1 November, 2013 – FOX International Channels (FIC) announced that it has picked up the 5th season of the hugely popular television series The Walking Dead, for its territories across Asia Pacific. This follows AMC’s recent announcement that they have renewed the zombie apocalypse drama series for a further season in the US and shows FIC’s commitment to delivering the best, most sought after content to audiences across Asia.

The enormous success of The Walking Dead Season 4’s recent premiere has firmly positioned the show as must-see content for viewers in Asia. The show’s opening episode cumulatively reached 83% more viewers than Season 3’s premiere across six countries – Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Korea and Australia. The first episode of Season 4 made FOX Movies Premium the top Western Movies Channel in both Singapore and Malaysia while FOX enjoyed similar success in the Philippines as the #1 Western General Entertainment Channel and FX was the top subscription channel in Australia. In Taiwan, The Walking Dead became the highest-rated western television series since 2005, making STAR Movies the #2 pay-TV channel and in Korea, FOX became the #3 cable channel overall.*

In the US, the return of the 4th season smashed all of its previous records, with the first episode boasting an audience of 16.1 million, 10.4 million of which were in the coveted adults aged 18-49 bracket, a series high and an all new record for cable television.**

The regional success of The Walking Dead highlights how Asia’s leading pay-TV network brings its viewers exceptional programming, as well as showcasing the creative marketing efforts that FIC undertakes to create that success. To launch the show this season in Japan, FIC leveraged its cross-promotion ability with FOX Sports Japan and staged a zombie attack at a baseball game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kK9LEM3JzQ), as well as executed an incredible Halloween stunt where over a thousand zombies stormed the Tokyo Tower (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jB3oJGHxrFk) which garnered international headlines. Also cross-promoting with its sports network across Southeast Asia, the set of the popular news show FOX Sports Central was turned into a post-zombie apocalypse zone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riZQzGom3ek&feature=youtu.be). Taiwan experienced a similar attack from ‘walkers’ who hijacked a bus and drove around famous tourist locations, promoting The Walking Dead Season 4 along the way.

Joon Lee, Executive Vice President of Content and Communications, Asia Pacific and the Middle East at FOX International Channels said, “We are very happy that we will be able to welcome the fifth season of The Walking Dead back to FIC. It has grown from a television series into a global pop culture phenomenon and it is very exciting for us to have been a part of that growth in introducing the zombie fever to Asia.”

The Walking Dead Season 5 will return in 2014 on FIC’s channel platforms across Asia Pacific, with Scott Gimple as the series’ showrunner and Robert Kirkman, creator of the original comic on which it is based, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse as executive producers.

Hong Kong, 1 November, 2013 – FOX International Channels Asia (FIC) is excited to announce the launch of STAR Chinese Movies’ (SCM) Southeast Asia (SEA) feed, which goes on air today. The move builds on SCM’s position as the ‘Emperor of Chinese Entertainment’ and a globally renowned brand that offers viewers around the world access to the latest Chinese-language blockbuster movies and other premium content.

The addition of SCM’s SEA feed takes the premium Chinese entertainment channel to a total of 8 feeds, making SCM the largest and farthest reaching Chinese-language channel. In addition to SEA, SCM’s 8 feeds also include SCM Hong Kong in SD and HD, SCM Taiwan in SD & HD, SCM Singapore in SD & HD and SCM International whose footprint covers Canada, USA, Australia and was recently launched in New Zealand last month. Each of the 8 SCM feeds has its own content and programming strategy to suit the territory it caters. In addition to the linear channel, FIC also offers SCM PLAY, an authenticated online catch-up service via the web or the iOS and Android app, allowing viewers to catch up on their favorite Chinese-language content whenever they want, wherever they want. The rapid expansion of its Chinese channels portfolio and non-linear services is in line with FIC’s commitment to make available premium Chinese-language entertainment not just across Asia but all across the world.

SCM’s SEA feed is available from today in Thailand via affiliate partners GMMZ and MeTV, and in Indonesia via affiliate partners First Media, Big TV, Parabola Orange TV, Skynindo and will be available on Aora TV from December 1st 2013. Recognizing that viewers’ tastes in Chinese entertainment differ in different countries across Asia, FIC invested in launching SCM’s SEA feed to further customize content and scheduling to suit viewers in these 2 important markets. Its current line-up includes blockbusters such as Saving General Yang, Ah Boys to Men 1 & 2 and The Wedding Diary 2, an SCM original co-production. These films will be subtitled in Chinese and English as well as Bahasa Indonesia and Thai respectively.

“The launch of SCM’s new feed for Southeast Asia marks another milestone for FIC’s ambitious goals to develop and promote Chinese entertainment as premium crossover content, not just in Asia but worldwide,” says Cora Yim, Vice President of the Chinese Channels Group at FOX International Channels. “With our global scale, steady investment in not just acquiring but also producing content, and established channel brand of SCM, FIC is in a great position to lead the charge in taking Chinese content global.”

As the world’s leading Chinese entertainment channel, SCM secures the exclusive first-window rights for the best Chinese-language movies from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and other countries across Asia. Its top quality line-up includes 12 movies that recently garnered an impressive 40 nominations across all the key categories for the 50th Golden Horse Awards, Taiwan’s prestigious annual film festival. Paris, 31 October 2013 – UltiSat, a global provider of turnkey communication solutions, has signed a multi-year contract with Eutelsat Communications (NYSE Euronext Paris: ETL) for capacity on the satellite EUTELSAT 5 West A. Taking advantage of the satellite’s C-band coverage of Africa, it will be used to provide nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) with managed satellite network solutions.

Leveraging its teleport in Denmark and secure network operations centre in Maryland, UltiSat will provide data and voice services between remote sites and its customers’ headquarters and data centres. Jean-François Leprince-Ringuet, Eutelsat’s Chief Commercial Officer added: “UltiSat places a premium on excellent customer care and high-quality. We are delighted that EUTELSAT 5 West A has met their stringent requirements and will be serving this critical profile of satellite user.”

ITU Radio Forum The Future of C Band in Asia Pacific 1 Nov 2013

Future of C-Band in Fiji

CASBAA representatives joined other stakeholders in Pacific Island at an ITU-sponsored “Forum on the Future of C-Band” in Fiji on November 1, 2013.

CASBAA’s consultant for the Pacific Islands, Maui Sanford, and Intelsat’s Washington-based Principle Regulatory Specialist, Annette Purves, spoke about the importance of satellites for communications in the Pacific and the need to preserve C-band spectrum for satellite use. Patrick Masambu, representing ITSO (and IMSO), himself a former regulator of Uganda, encouraged the various administrations to make their concerns regarding the criticality of C-band especially for the Pacific Island nations heard at the ITU.

Fiji-TV spokesman Clint Ah Sam told the forum about the signal loss to Fiji-TV’s customers, when a broadband wireless (WiMax) system fired up in C-band frequencies, making TV reception impossible in many areas.

Pictured, at the forum are (from left):
